A Library Card Sign Up Month Promotion
Hello Everyone,
Nice to join you again. It has been a minute since I last posted. The process of completing posters to promote has been a struggle for me. I tend to understand how to use Canva as a tool to promote events, tools, community needs, and library uses. Although I must say that I have found it difficult to understand how to navigate a tool such as Canva and be able to promote school library needs. As far as this assignment entails. I had to think a lot about a theme that would be appropriate to the community that I am serving. I opted to create a simple poster that would show K-8th students the importance of Library Card Sign-Up Month.
In choosing a topic of promotion, I decided to focus on Library Card Sign Up Month. The two reasons I opted for Library Card Sign Up Month is one; some children may not have a library card and may not know that they can get one of their own. And secondly, I want to promote school collaboration with the public library in the community. In other words, it will get children to visit the public library. I also know that Library Card Sign Up Month is in September, and promoting such a thing as this would allow students to visit their public library as soon as school begins. It will allow upper elementary students the opportunity to understand the role of a public library and how it benefits all students. It would engage early elementary students in activities such as story time, check out, reading programs, or maker space. And of course, all students would get books for free, either physical, digital, or in audio.
I then navigated to the ALA website and noticed their flyers for Library Card Sign Up Month to use in Canva, and I liked most of it. However, I wanted to create more to promote Library Card Sign Up month beyond just the flyer. So, I decided to create my own and provide more animation to engage younger audiences, versus realistic pictures. I also wanted to have some creativity in it as well.
