A Curation Place to Read- Blog Post 3
Hello there,
Curation- the ability to select from a variety of topics. I have been fascinated by the ability to provide quality and quick access to information to patrons. I have lately found myself thinking about reading a lot. Specifically, when it comes to students or patrons, I will help in the future.
It is no surprise that technology has helped provide easier access to information for everyone. Using curational tools such as Padlet, Wakelet, and Symbaloo, has helped me understand how many resources are available for my convenience and how they will help my career as a future librarian.
First is Wakelet. I absolutely loved this tool; it was easy to navigate and post websites and articles about places to read. I found it easy to post the URL's of each website and for the most part it was easy to add a heading or title of a choice board. The reason I chose a choice board design under Wakelet was because I thought the appearance would help patrons or students navigate the board better. It would also provide a nice visual appeal. Below you may find my Wakelet Board.
Another similar design tool to this is Padlet. I love Padlet and have used it in other courses as well. I love that I am able to present a topic with ease and can provide options for readers or viewers to comment and interact with one another. I think I would really enjoy using this tool in the classroom versus a public library. I think that it would allow students to engage with one another, and presentation-wise it is very visually appealing. I think that being able to select areas of places to read is one that is very important to students especially if they are struggling readers or learning how to read and comprehend that skill on their own.

Lastly, I chose to work with Symbaloo. Similarly to Padlet and Wakelet, it is visually appealing and it provides a choice board aspect as well. However, although it is true, I found it a bit difficult to adjust or edit my work in it. It did not automatically place my URLs in a way that Padlet and Wakelet did and provide big imagery. The boxes were pretty small, and I struggled to make them bigger. Setting the Image size was also a bit of a struggle. I would use Symbaloo, but I think I would need to have more time on my hands to create a curation project or informational tool for the community I will serve.
Symbaloo
Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment and I hope to continue to use these tools in my career.
