Blogging: A Writing Connection
Hello Reader,
Welcome to Anabel's Archives! Thank you for stopping in as I navigate the process of blogs. I am no expert, but I have dipped my toes in blogs before.
Now why Blogger? Well the answer is pretty simple, I have used this tool before in a previous class. I love how easy it is to edit and adapt the site without too much work. I really enjoy the pages section when using Blogger because it allows me to separate all of my work into sections, and in doing so the viewer can find them easily too.
I also enjoy that I get to create all types of posts when using Blogger in the same area. If I don't want to create sections then all my posts are seen in one whole page. As I have mentioned before, I am no expert in the world of blogging. One of the many reasons would be that I tend to journal more than write online.
As I have navigated my academic career, I've come the realization that blogs are a popular tool that can connect people all around the world, and can specifically connect students in the academic world. I would love to create a school library blog where I would post my Library Newsletter along with "Ms. Torres Monthly Picks". An idea that would allow students and staff to know what I was reading/recommend them to read. It would allow the school community to engage with one another and find similar interests in books. Plus, I could use it as a future academic assignment for older students. I would have them create their own class blog (a blog within a blog) and suggest their own books and titles to other grades and students.
I would also love to include images of books, links to reserve a book in the school or public library, and have a comment/rating section where students could rate the book and write why the like or disliked the book. I understand that it would be quite a task to monitor such a section and verify that a comment section is being used properly. But I think that it a challenge I am wiling to endure.
Although I am no expert of technology, I hope to learn little by little throughout this course. I want to be able to provide the love of books, technology and access to information to the entire school community I serve.

Anabel, I loved hearing about your ideas on how you’d like to use your blog in the future. You’ve given me so many ideas on ways I could use a blog myself and helped me break out of my narrow realm of thought. I think it is so creative to want to make a “Goodreads” esque system for your students. Kids definitely like to push boundaries of what’s appropriate if you let them, but I’d imagine if you make it so you have to approve the comments before they are published, then you’d be able to keep at least some order. But that would still likely be quite a bit of work, so all the power to you! If you do set up something of that sort, I’ll be excited to see it!
